Bonani

Bonani privacy policy

Updated on 5 October 2026

Bonani is a birthday notebook for iPhone, iPad and Android. The notebook works offline without an account. From version 1.0 (8), you can choose Apple or Google sign-in to back up your notebook online.

Who publishes Bonani?

Appik Studio Sàrl, Lausanne, Switzerland, publishes Bonani. For questions about your data, email contact@appik-studio.ch.

Your notebook data

You can save a name, birthday day and month, an optional birth year, a private note and an optional photo. Bonani stores this information and your reminder settings in the app’s storage on your device.

Without signing in to a Bonani account, your notebook stays on your device, except for files you export and system backups you allow. Bonani has no advertising or remote usage analytics service.

Permissions

On iOS and Android, Bonani asks for your permission to read contacts only when you choose to import birthdays. Search and selection take place on your device, using the contacts the system allows you to access. Bonani copies only the name, birthday and small photo of the people you select. It does not change your contacts or import their phone numbers, email addresses, other addresses or notes.

When you choose a photo, the system picker lets you select the image to add. Bonani keeps a small copy in your notebook. You can manage permissions in your device settings.

You can deny access to contacts and continue adding people manually. To allow access later, open your device settings and then Bonani’s permissions.

Reminders and the widget

With your permission, the system displays local birthday notifications. Bonani does not use a server to send these reminders. They may display the name and birthday information, but never your private note.

The widget uses only a summary of the next birthday. It may display the name and date, without the private note. This information may be visible on your device’s screen. You can turn off reminders or remove the widget.

Backups you export

You can export your notebook as a JSON file. The file contains names, birthdays, birth years, notes, small photos and reminder settings. Bonani does not encrypt this file.

You choose where to save the file and whom to share it with. If you save it to an online storage service, that service’s own terms apply. Keep your backups in a safe place. Import shows a preview and asks for confirmation before replacing your notebook.

Optional Apple or Google backup

If you choose to sign in, Apple or Google provides an identifier and the name and email address available in your profile. Bonani uses these details to create your account and retrieve its backup. Apple may provide a hidden email address. Necessary sign-in information is retained to manage sessions and, for Apple, revoke the authorisation when you delete your account.

Signing in enables automatic backup of names, birthdays, birth years, notes, small photos and reminder settings. You can pause automatic uploads or sign out. Your account and latest backup are retained; these actions do not delete them.

Appik Studio uses Convex to host the account and latest backup in Virginia, United States. Transfers use HTTPS. The backup is not end-to-end encrypted: Appik Studio and its hosting provider can process its contents to provide this service. Other Bonani users cannot access it.

On another device, use the same account and the same Apple or Google provider. Bonani shows a preview and asks for confirmation before replacing your local notebook. Different versions on multiple devices require a choice. The service keeps the latest successful backup, without an accessible history of changes.

Retention and deletion

Records remain on your device for as long as you keep them. You can edit or delete them in Bonani. Deleting a record also removes its photo from the notebook and its local reminders.

Deleting the app removes its local data. Previously exported files and any copies in system backups remain under your control. Delete them separately if you also wish to remove them. On iOS, device backups may include Bonani data depending on your Apple settings.

Delete your account and online backup

In Bonani settings, open online backup, choose account deletion and confirm. Deletion removes your account, its sessions and its backup from the active service. It preserves the notebook on this device and stops its automatic uploads. You can delete local records separately.

If deletion fails, Bonani shows an error and lets you retry; it does not report success. For Apple, Bonani also revokes sign-in authorisation when a token is available. The app tells you if an older authorisation needs to be removed manually.

Without the app, request deletion at contact@appik-studio.ch. Include “Delete Bonani account”, the provider and associated email address, including your hidden Apple address if applicable. We will verify ownership before deletion. Do not send a password, sign-in code or notebook. Delete exported files and device backups separately.

If you contact support

If you email us, we receive your email address and message to handle your request. We keep them for as long as needed to follow up and meet our legal obligations. Do not attach your notebook or other people’s data when reporting a problem.

You can request access to, correction or deletion of information you have sent us at contact@appik-studio.ch. We do not remotely access your local notebook; if you enable online backup, Appik Studio processes its hosted copy to provide that service.

In-app support opens Askolia. This service saves a technical identifier in the browser to retrieve your conversation, the messages you send, and any name or email address you choose to provide. Askolia hosts conversations in the European Union. Its service providers may process messages to supply automated replies or email continuation. Your Bonani notebook is not automatically sent to support. You can separately request deletion of your messages at contact@appik-studio.ch.

Apple, Google and this web page

Apple and Google may provide Appik Studio with aggregate statistics about downloads and use of their stores. Diagnostics you choose to share with your operating system are governed by Apple or Google settings and policies. They do not provide access to your notebook’s contents.

This web page does not load advertising, cookies or analytics tools. Its hosting provider, Vercel, processes technical information needed to serve the page, such as your IP address and web request. The general Appik Studio website has its own privacy policy.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if Bonani’s operation or the practices described here change. The date at the top of the page shows the last update.
